-
Adaptive personal training means we adjust the training experience to the individual rather than expecting the individual to adapt to a traditional fitness environment. Exercises, equipment, communication, pacing, and coaching strategies can all be modified based on what helps each athlete be successful.
-
The programming we offer at Maur Movement is highly specialized, designed to assess and accommodate each individual's physical, adaptive, and cognitive skills. Our training considerations include much more than an athlete's fitness when planning sessions. Our coaches take the time to understand how each athlete learns, communicates, moves, and engages so we can create a training experience that works for them.
-
If you're unsure whether Maur Movement is the right fit, we encourage you to reach out. We'll learn more about your athlete, their needs, and what you're hoping to accomplish through training. Our introductory process also gives us an opportunity to get to know your athlete and determine how we can best support them.
-
We work with individuals of all ages and abilities with a primary specialty-focus on neurodivergent children and young adults.
-
Yes. Athletes do not need any previous fitness or gym experience to get started. Training is individualized based on each person's current abilities, needs, and goals. We meet each of our athletes where they are and build from there.
-
Yes. We recognize that every athlete is different. We encourage families and caregivers to share information about sensory preferences, communication styles, behaviors, motivators, and other supports that may help their athlete be successful. We use this information to help individualize the training experience.
Training Sessions
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
-
Sessions are built around the athlete's individual goals and abilities and may include strength training, cardiovascular exercise, mobility, balance, coordination, and other forms of movement. Coaches can also adapt the structure, pacing, and exercises based on how an athlete is doing that day.
-
All Maur Movement sessions are 30-40 minutes in duration.
-
Yes. Our standard training sessions are one-on-one, allowing coaches to provide individualized attention and adapt each session to the athlete.
-
We typically see clients one to three times per week on a recurring schedule to provide each athlete with a dedicated day and time. To ensure consistency in coaching and programming, we require a minimum commitment of one session per week.
-
Not always. When there is a specific need or consideration—such as a preference for a male or female coach—we will take that into account whenever possible. While we cannot guarantee a specific coach, our team works collaboratively to provide a consistent and supportive training experience for every athlete.
-
Some Maur Movement clients attend training sessions with a parent or guardian, many come with a community habilitation staff member, and others navigate sessions independently. In all circumstances, we prioritize building a strong coach-athlete relationship as the foundation of client success. Parental or staff support is largely a factor in transportation to and from sessions and when any behavioral or extenuating circumstances arise. Athlete staff may observe training sessions however, we ask that only clients and coaches access the space beyond our waiting area.
-
We get to know each athlete individually and adjust our coaching approach accordingly. This can include modifying communication, exercises, equipment, pacing, transitions, or the session environment. Families and caregivers are an important resource in helping us understand what strategies and supports work best for their athlete.
-
Yes. Maur Movement is one of three select programs internationally recognized as a Certified Facility by the Exercise Connection Corporation. Adhering to the highest standards in science and practice, all our coaches are trained Autism Exercise Specialists.

Frequently Asked Questions

TBD (WILL GET MORE SPECIFIC ONCE WE FIGURE OUT FINAL FORM PROCESS)
-
Our introductory session gives you and your athlete an opportunity to meet our founder, Coach Kristin, become familiar with the gym environment, and try different exercises and equipment. It also allows us to learn more about their abilities, preferences, and support needs so we can begin developing an individualized approach to training.
-
That's okay! A new environment, new coach, and new routine can take time to get used to. We work at the athlete's pace and focus on helping them become comfortable in our space and with their coach. For some athletes, simply getting through the door on day 1 is a success.
-
Not at all. No previous gym or exercise experience is required. Coaches introduce equipment and exercises at a pace appropriate for each athlete and provide the level of instruction and support they need.
-
We understand that building comfort and trust can take time. We don't expect every athlete to walk in on day one ready to complete a traditional workout. Our coaches can gradually introduce the environment, equipment, exercises, and routines while building a relationship with the athlete. We value quality over quantity and take cues from our athletes to best meet them where they are.
-
Yes. Required intake paperwork must be completed before we schedule an introductory session. For athletes using Self-Direction, we also need to complete the necessary approval process with your Fiscal Intermediary before scheduling. (GIVE DIRECTION ON WHERE TO FIND PAPERWORK)
-
Your athlete should wear clean, comfortable, close-toed footwear. To maintain the integrity of our space, we ask that outside shoes are changed before accessing the workout space. We also welcome and encourage you to bring a water bottle.
